A design system for a product people use
A useful design system begins with the screens a team builds repeatedly. Look for the same form fields, tables, navigation patterns, and status messages across the product. Document how those patterns behave, including loading, errors, and empty states.
Build components only when they reduce repeated decisions. A button with ten variants may be harder to use than two clear options. Show examples from the actual product so designers and developers can judge whether a pattern fits.
Review the system as the product changes. The point is to help the team make consistent decisions, not to freeze the interface.
